Inaugral Lecture of the Irish Group of IABSE: Design of Major Bridges – State of the Art and Current Trends

The Inagural Lecture of the IABSE Irish National Group will be held on the 16th November 2010, in the Robert Emmet Theatre, Arts Block, Trinity College Dublin (at 7:15 pm).

This lecture, covering the subject of Current Trends in the Design of Major Bridges, will be delivered by Miguel Angel Astiz from the Spanish firm Carlos Fernandez Casado. Miguel Angel Astiz is a Spanish bridge engineer with more than 30 years experience in major bridge design. He shares his professional activity between academia, where he currently holds the chair in bridge design in the Civil Engineering School at the University of Madrid, and professional practice in Carlos Fernandez Casado, a worldwide prestigious bridge design firm which he joined in 1977. During the last 40 years, the firm of Carlos Fernandez Casado has carried out detail design of a multitude of major structures worldwide such as:

  • The River Suir Cable stayed bridge (Waterford, 2010)
  • Barrios de Luna Cable stayed bridge (Spain, 1984)
  • Cadiz Bay Bridge (Spain, 2011)
  • The Danube crossing in Vidin (Bulgaria, 2011)
  • Contreras high speed train Arch (Spain, 2009)
