Branch AGM and Evening Lecture – The Aviva Stadium
POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
The recently completed Aviva Stadium, a joint venture between the IRFU and the FAI, opened its doors on 14th May 2010. The state of the art stadium has a seated capacity of 50,000 and has already established its landmark status on Dublin’s skyline.
The distinctive stadium roof, with its continuous curvilinear shape, was designed as a horseshoe shaped steel truss. The main stand structure was constructed using in situ concrete, with sustainability playing a key role throughout. This lecture will describe the structure, and outline the complex construction programme undertaken.
Speaker:
- John Harte is a civil engineer with PM Group and was deputy project manager on the stadium project.
