Integral Bridges (No. 2 Dec-96)
Expansion joints on bridges have provided severe maintenance problems for bridge authorities throughout the world due to penetration of water and de-icing salts through movement joints. This has led to “integral bridges” becoming more widespread as engineers seek ways of avoiding these problems. “Integral Bridges” are bridges which are constructed without any movement joints between spans or between spans and abutments. Dublin Port Access Tunnel (No. 2 Dec-96)
The Environmental Impact Statement for the Dublin Port Tunnel was published in July 1996 and the final date for submissions to the Minister for the Environment was September 30th, 1996. This E.I.S. was prepared for the A6 route. On October 7th, 1996 Dublin City Council decided that all six routes, A1 to A6, (previously considered in a 1993 report) should be placed on public display. This public display, which commenced on November 4th, 1996 and will continue until February 3rd, 1997, forms part of the process of varying the Dublin City Development Plan (1991) in order to include a Dublin Port Tunnel Motorway scheme.
